Welcome to Studio Wabi, Experimental Drawing Lab. Breathe Freely.

What are your three favorite things today? My three favorites today are curiosity, hope, and pencils of course! This site documents my travels as both a binary conduit and a human. I am currently effervescing copiously, in the form of copper and zinc printing plates and drawing experiments. Please enjoy the Recent Experiments , which are summarized below. And thanks for visiting,

Drawing Experiment #19: Name That Piece!

Latest Collaboration: Interpretation of Dreams

Kent's dreamcabbage dream closeup

Wacked together in fits and starts, this particular object had no name and no home. Then one day  Kent Rodriguez Segura , passing by, spotted it on the dusty shelf and realized out loud this was quite an attractive cabbage.  “What cabbage,” I said. When Mr. Merserau from next door called out, “It’s actually a frog”, I was taken aback a second time.  Then, “Isn’t that your Sagger Box?” asked Nadja. Triply perplexed by now, “Cabbage?” I muttered.  “All about context.” said Mr. Merserau, and held the object himself.  “See?” he said, “Frog.”

Drawing Experiment #18: George Bush Compassion Project, Redux

In celebration of Dick Cheney’s new heart, here are  a couple of extensions to the George Bush Compassion Project.  This time incorporating Dick.  Everyone blames it all on Dick.   That’s a pretty heavy burden to carry, the whole WMD thing, 100?s of 1000?s dead, (I include total dead, without distinguishing for “race”), financial collapse… Valerie Plame…

George and Dick, two torsos together

For this exercise I investigated the bodies of the old boys.  On further inspection you’ll notice the involvement of crucifixes, occurring within the body. They provide a marvelous structure to the bodies, enabling the build to go very quickly.  I would say the reference is not to the personal sacrifices of either man, but is a recognition of a high level of engagement with a religious ordering of the state.

Drawing Experiment #17a: Icelandic Survey

This survey hopes to get a closer look at the likes and dislikes of all kinds of Icelanders, and get a few hints about day to day life. The outcome will be drawings, narrative, and sculptures that follow on this input. Why a survey about Icelanders?  In the last decade major financial, political, and natural disaster disruptions have taken place … more

Drawing Experiment #16a: And Queequeg would be?…

The Ever Vigilant Queequeg, gesturing "Victory!"

The Ever Vigilant Queequeg, gesturing “Victory!”

In light of the current Cook/Bradford collaboration, giving a bit of thought to who exactly this Queequeg is/was. My only firm idea on the matter is, we should all have a Queegueg watching our back.

In this version, the ever vigilant ever loyal Queequeg, survives a cannonball through the center, at least long enough to pump a fisted victory.

Drawing Experiment #15: Chalk: A Celebration of the Coccolith

Chalk! A celebration of this ancient substance, produced by the potent and ever so simple single-cell plankton, the coccolithophore. Also a response to Mike Daisey’s dark ode to Apple: come into the light and embrace this modest, charming tool. Talk about unibody, a stick of chalk is not only smooth as silk, it is truly solid to the core.

The view from Studio 106: The Legend of Chalk diagram.

About the reference to Mr. Daisey’s episode… It’s how Daisey talks about his intimacy with his Apple devices, that unibody, the magically seamless construction and then finding how this artful object gets pieced together in a very particular environment:

This video says everything I currently can say about drawing. And I actually have a lot to say about it. Thanks for keeping an open mind.
